The New Project Manager – Improving effective engagement

According to the PMBOK 5th edition, close to 90% of a project manager’s time is spent communicating and managing stakeholders.

Of course, it’s essential for project managers to have the appropriate technical training, but it takes a very high level of E.Q. and strong interpersonal skills to be able to successfully engage the numerous stakeholders involved in large IT projects. Strong leadership skills, the ability to manage relationships well, along with the ability to engage, influence, bargain with, persuade, soft-sell, empathise and adapt their behaviour to suit the context, are paramount to managing the challenges that are a part and parcel of the project management role.

The Solution

Velisa Africa Academy presents The New Project Manager, a soft skills programme designed specifically for project managers who are already qualified and/or experienced in project management, but who are struggling with some aspects of engagement, communication and influence, and which can prove detrimental to successful project outcomes.

Based on the years of experience in project delivery in the corporate and consulting arenas, the programme provides experiential learning of the soft skills necessary to effectively engage with all those involved in and/or able to influence the project outcome.

The programme consists of practical, interactive workshops, monthly assignments and online mentoring sessions to not only ensure the immediate application of the learning, but to also embed the new skills and generate sustainable changes in the mind-sets of the individuals concerned so that their new skills become a natural part of their daily routine.

Course objectives

The VAA New PM certification training programme is a 10 day high-impact programme aimed at developing individuals in specific soft-skill sets related to project management. The New PM programme provides practical training that enables effective engagement in the context of project management. Programme graduates will receive the Velisa Africa Project Manager Soft Skills Completion certificate

Audience

This Programme is intended for individuals seeking to develop a greater ability to manage the interpersonal challenges that occur in a project manager’s role on a day to day basis to enable them to effectively manage all of the engagements and interactions required to successfully deliver on their projects.

The programme duration is 5 months. The programme consists of 5 modules, each module comprises 2 days (10 days) – you will have tasks and activities to complete in between each training module Training will be over alternate weeks, the specific dates to be arranged on request

Completion

On successful completion of this course, delegates will receive a Velisa Africa Mastery Project Management certificate.
