Description

This course teaches students to create an attractive and well-structured web site using basic and intermediate HTML and CSS. Students will learn basic tags and about hyperlinks, HTML page structure, meta data, image placement, validation, tables and forms. We will cover Cascading Style Sheets to control the look and placement of these HTML elements. Additionally, we cover external style sheets, and how to create HTML source code that is both readable and upholds XHTML standards.

METHODOLOGY

The course is practical in nature in that a series of tutorials and assignment guide the learner through the practical application of the concepts taught in the course. Included are exercises on:

  • HTML page creation
  • Tables
  • DIV’s
  • Forms
  • CSS
  • Image placement
  • Text handling

OUTCOMES

At the completion of the course students will be able to create a basic HTML based website, with external style sheets and limited form functionality.

PLATFORM

The computer platform used is Linux. The academy uses the SuSE distribution. All development and hosting is local, using XAMPP.

  • A full set of notes covering the course outline.
  • Relevant open-source software for home installations
